Cyber Wales Ecosystem Overview

Cyber Wales' ecosystem is made up of four core sectors as we believe all of these are required for any real collaboration and progress to be made.

Organisations of all sizes contribute to Wales' cyber ecosystem working to support the National Cyber Security Strategy to make the UK the safest place to do business in cyberspace and the Welsh Government’s stated aim to be a hub for cyber security expertise in the UK.

South Wales Cyber Security Cluster Meeting

    April 16, 2019

    College Road, Carmarthen, SA31 3EQ

    College Road, Carmarthen, SA31 3EQ

The Cluster is delighted to be heading out West for our April meeting for a visit to Carmarthen, the oldest town in Wales, home of Merlin and site of one of the earliest large-scale Eisteddfods in Welsh history.

Not surprising then that Carmarthen is at the heart of a resurgence of the Welsh Creative Industries, in many ways ignited by S4C’s decision to locate it’s brand new Headquarters there. Canolfan Yr Egin was opened in September by First Minister Carwyn Jones AM and is home to a cluster of companies and organisations from the creative and digital sectors.

Carys Ifan, Director of Canolfan S4C Yr Egin has invited the Cluster to come and see the new building’s facilities (guided tour!) and meet some of the organisations who work there. The Centre has a very close relationship with the University of Wales Trinity St David who are right next door and are keen to reach out to the Digital and Cyber communities.

Our guest speaker will be travelling from London to come to Yr Egin and tell us about the activities and plans of TechUK. Talal Rajab is the Head of Programme for techUK’s Cyber and National Securityprogrammes and he manages strategic relationships between Government and industry members on cyber and national security related issues, in particular through the Cyber Growth Partnership. He has a parliamentary background having led the Industry and Parliament Trust (IPT) Cyber Security Commission and worked on a counter-extremism think tank.

Many of the ‘News & Opportunities’ posts we publish on the Cluster website come from TechUK and this puts us at the heart of Cyber initiatives from the UK Government as well as keeping us in touch with the other cyber networking groups outside Wales. It will be great to get an update directly from TechUK.

We will also be hosting a Trade Delegation from Japan – Sam Matsumoto and Taka Nishida from The Japan Cluster of Security Professionals will be in Wales again for a visit and we will be hearing about some of the amazing collaboration opportunities for those of us who would like to explore that massive market through partnerships with Japanese cyber companies.

This is going to be a fantastic meeting at a brand new venue with a jam-packed agenda and we are looking forward to meeting with some new friends from West Wales at the same time.

    See you all there!
