Cyber Exchange June Newsletter


Welcome to the June edition of the Cyber Exchange newsletter.

Cyber Exchange is delighted to announce that we will be hosting a pitching competition at the techUK Cyber Innovation Den. The Cyber Exchange Pitching Competition will bring together ten of the most innovative cyber SMEs to pitch their products and services to a panel of expert judges from across the private and public sectors. To apply for the competition, please fill out the attached form and return it to dan.patefield@techuk.org by Thursday 24 June. Following a shortlisting process all entrants will be notified if they have secured a place to take part in the pitching competition within a week of the deadline.

The first half of the conference will feature senior speakers from government and industry exploring these challenges and discuss how the UK cyber sector can move forward, learning lessons from this period of disruption and building on the strengths the sector has developed over the past decade. The conference will begin with a keynote address delivered by a senior representative from the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC). To book you place click here.

Over the last month, DCMS has launched a £30m open competition – 5G Create – which aims to attract bids from a variety of industries where the UK has a competitive advantage. The Digital Boost service has also been launched, which will host an online community of digital experts who will offer one to one digital support for small businesses and charities free of charge. Finally, applications are open for the Cyber Accelerator Programme, with a number of opportunities before the end of the year.

OpportunitiesCyber Exchange Pitching Competition

The pitching competition will bring together 10 of the most innovative cyber SMEs to pitch their products and services to a panel of expert judges from across the private and public sectors. In order to be eligible for this competition, you must have been a UK micro or small company registered with Companies House and demonstrate that you are selling products or services originating substantially in the UK; or adding significant value to a product or service of non-UK origin.

5G Create Funding Competition

A new £30 million open competition – 5G Create – has been launched. This is an open competition aiming to attract bids from a variety of industries where the UK has a competitive advantage, encouraging dynamic business models and opening up new opportunities and markets. This includes our creative industries such as film, TV and video games, but also our rich variety of technology businesses in diverse sectors such as energy, water, health and social care, logistics and more.

Apply for the Coronavirus Future Fund

The Future Fund provides government loans to UK-based companies ranging from £125,000 to £5m, subject to at least equal match funding from private investors. These convertible loans may be an option for businesses that rely on equity investment and are unable to access other government business support programmes.

15th e-Crime & Cybersecurity DACH: Virtual edition
On Wednesday 17 June, AKJ Associates will host the 15th e-Crime & Cybersecurity DACH. As the entire business goes off-premise, how should CISOs react? What are the key priorities? How do CISOs ensure that they and their teams are secure as well as key employees and business processes? What is the initial response versus the longer-term? The 15th e-Crime and Cybersecurity DACH will take place online and look at how cybersecurity teams are tackling this dramatically different threatscape. 19th European Conference on Cyber Warfare and Security
On Thursday 25 June, the University of Chester will host the 19th European conference on cyber warfare and security. This conference attracts an interesting combination of academic scholars, military personnel, practitioners and individuals who are engaged in various aspects of the cyber security community. ECCWS is generally attended by participants from more than 30 countries. The Journal of Information Warfare regularly publishes a number of the papers presented at this conference.

The UK’s DIT UN Procurement Webinar
The Department of International Trade in New York invites you to join them for an informational session with the UN Procurement Division to discuss procurement opportunities in the Cybersecurity sector.

Cyber Innovation Den
Following the success of the first Cyber Innovation Den in 2019, this event will bring together colleagues from across the UK cyber sector, to discuss the key challenges facing the sector and opportunities for strengthening both the UK’s cyber resilience and innovation and growth within the growing sector. The first half of the techUK conference will feature senior speakers from government and industry exploring these challenges and discuss how the UK cyber sector can move forward, learning lessons from this period of disruption and building on the strengths the sector has developed over the past decade. The second half of the conference will feature the Cyber Exchange Pitching Competition.

Cyber Security Expo – Bristol
The Cyber Security EXPO will be hosted at the Aerospace Bristol on Thursday 3 September. The EXPO gives attendees the opportunity to meet with hiring managers and recruitment agencies. If you already work in Cyber Security or are looking to work within the Cyber Security industry, the event gives you the opportunity to meet with employers face-to-face.

Richmond Cyber Security Forum
The Richmond Cyber Security Forum in London will include a first class, CPD accredited conference programme of keynotes, interactive workshops, think tanks and personal development sessions. The opportunity to connect and engage with industry peers in a relaxed informal setting and the chance to discover what’s available in the market place in pre-scheduled meetings of your choice.

GOVSEC – Government IT Security Conference
On Wednesday 23 September, the annual GovSec conference will take place. The conference aims to enable the government to function effectively, safely and securely through improved IT and information security to protect the vital services provided by the central government, local councils and the NHS.
