Our February meeting will be hosted in the brand new Computational Foundry building at the stunning Bay Campus of Swansea University on Fabian Way.
The Computational Foundry is a new £32.5 million world-class facility, which comprises the staff of Swansea University’s Computer Science and Mathematics departments as its core team. It is intended to be a place where industry partners can work with the University to test new ideas, where people from all disciplines can link up, and where the digital innovators of tomorrow will be completing their studies. Cyber security (‘Securing Life’), health technologies (‘Sustaining Life’) and the increasing pervasiveness of digital in everyday life (‘Enhancing Life’) will be the three core themes initially, but the Foundry will adopt a flexible approach, responding to industry needs and emerging research priorities across computational science.
In addition to being among the first people to see inside this new facility, we will be given and overview of the Computational Foundry from the head of Department, a talk on cyber security at Swansea University by Dr Phillip James, Senior Lecturer at the Dept. of Computer Science and a talk on the research being carried out.
We will also hear about an amazing opportunity for Cluster members to participate in a Sandpit Event being organised by the Cherish-DE Team at the University around Easter time this year where individuals and companies can present innovations to a panel of investors and researchers. Markus Roggenbach from the Team will be on hand to answer questions and clarify the possibility of investment.
Also, the SANS Institute, the biggest provider of Cyber Training in the world, have their EMEA HQ in Swansea and their Managing Director Stephen Jones will be coming along to provide an overview of the huge range of training resources available, explain their close relationship with Wales and answer questions about their Global operations.
See you all there!
