CyDef 2024, Tokyo
4th December 2024 | 09:00 - 17:00

Cyber Wales were proud to represent the UK at this prestigious nation-state cyber event in Tokyo.

Honorary Colonel John Davies MBE PhD FCIIS presented in partnership with Sumitaka Mastumoto, Co-founder of Cyber Hiroshima, a sister-cluster to Cyber Wales, to provide a valuable opportunity for members of parliament and government officials to learn directly from experts. The session also featured presentations from Dr. Jason Brown of the U.S. Army Cyber Institute about the Georgia Cyber Center of Excellence, and Dr. Didier Danet from France on the Brittany Cyber Cluster. The ultimate goal is to establish a Cyber Innovation Hub in Japan, positioning the country as a strategic base for the continent, a defensive barrier in the Pacific, and a gateway to the Indo-Pacific region.

Dr John went on to speak on a panel on Critical Infrastructure Protection : “Safeguarding Global Trade – Enhancing Logistics Critical Infrastructure Resilience”

This session explored the topics of logistics based critical infrastructure resilience understanding threat vectors, civil-military cooperation, the emergence of regulatory frameworks, the application of technology solutions and best practices. Transportation and logistics are essential for the operation of the highly inter-connected commerce across multiple countries and can be disrupted impacting food and energy security as well as continued operation of manufacturing. Technology is connecting operational systems through satellite systems allowing for remote manipulation.

The session provides an opportunity to discuss the current state and engage the audience in innovative solutions and cooperative efforts that could be implemented. The goal is to foster a dialogue between cybersecurity experts, policymakers, and military strategists to develop more resilient infrastructure protection strategies.

About CYDEF

This conference brings together experts in the field of cyber defense from around the world, to disseminate information, share awareness and establish collaboration. It aims to deepen and broaden understanding of these objectives through discussions.

Since its inaugural meeting in 2018, CYDEF has consistently grown, attracting approximately 300 speakers and 5,500 audience members over the past six years.

CYDEF 2024, now in its seventh year, will center around sessions organized by associated research institutes primarily from NATO countries, as in the previous year, while also expanding its framework to include the Indo-Pacific nations.

Moving forward, we aim to position CYDEF as a key hub for collaboration between industry, government and academia, both domestically and internationally.
